iPad - Insurance

iPad insurance envelopes will be given to all students grades K to 12, on the first day of school. Students are expected to deliver the iPad insurance envelope to their parent/guardian for the decision to OPT in or OPT out.

Insurance costs are based on your family's free and reduced meal status.

  • Regular Lunch, $25.00 per student
  • Reduced Lunch, $15.00 per student
  • Free Lunch, $5.00 per student
  • iPad insurance envelopes need to be returned on or before September 11th. 
  • We offer a grace period until September 30th, for returning students. iPad insurance can not be purchased after September 30th.

iPad insurance envelopes will be sent home with your student(s) the first days of school and will be available after that at each school's Guidance Office.

  1. Mark on the envelope your iPad insurance selection - OPT-IN or OPT-OUT

  2. Fill in the needed information on the iPad Insurance Envelope (even if you OPT-OUT).

  3. If you OPT-IN, select your cost category above (Regular, Reduced Lunch or Free Lunch).

    1. Insurance cost is based on your meal status

      1. Regular Lunch insurance is $25.00

      2. Reduced Lunch insurance is $15.00

      3. Free Lunch insurance is $5.00

    2. Put the correct amount in the envelope and seal it.

  4. Have your student(s) deliver the envelope with your decision (OPT-IN or OPT-OUT) to their teacher. Elementary and Middle School, the envelope goes to their homeroom teacher. High School, the envelope goes to their 1st period teacher. The teachers will turn them into the Guidance office.

  5. Parents must OPT IN or OPT OUT on or before September 10th of the school year. If you do not OPT-IN, on or before 9/10/21 of the school year, you will be assigned the status on OPT OUT. OPT OUT status indicates that you take full responsibility to replace any lost or damaged technology that was assigned to your student(s).


OPT-IN - fill out the requested information on the envelope and submit a check (made out to Central Columbia School District) or money order for the correct amount and have your student return the envelope to their HOMEROOM or in the HS, their First (1st) period teacher.

OPT OUT – fill out the requested information, sign the envelope and have your student return the empty envelope to their HOMEROOM or in the HS, their First (1st) period teacher.

  • The REGULAR iPad Fees/Insurance yearly cost is $25.00 per student. $20.00, 1st incident charge and $80.00 for additional incidents for the school year (in addition to discipline related to the student iPad issue). 

  • The REDUCED LUNCH (eligibility determined via the NSLP) iPad Fees/Insurance yearly cost is $15.00 per student. $10.00, 1st incident charge and $50.00 for additional incidents for the school year (in addition to discipline related to the student iPad issue). 

  • The FREE LUNCH (eligibility determined via the NSLP) iPad Fees/Insurance yearly cost is $5.00 per student. $10.00, 1st incident charge and $50.00 for additional incidents for the school year (in addition to discipline related to the student iPad issue).

    • If insurance is not purchased, the Parent/Guardian is liable for the full replacement or repair cost as determined by the Director of Technology. 

  • If you haven't received an ‘iPad Insurance Envelope’, contact your school's Guidance Office Secretary. If for any reason we do not receive your iPad Insurance Envelope with your selection, you will not have any insurance coverage.

(board policy #5415), On May 18th, 2015, the School Board updated the “Student iPad Responsible Use Policy and Student/Parent Policy, 5415.22; iPad Fees/Insurance”. Effective beginning the 2015-16 school year, parents have the option of purchasing annual, nonrefundable insurance for the iPad, the protective case, power adapters and cables. The annual insurance cost is listed below. Purchasing insurance and limits, are based on the families National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or more commonly referred to as, ‘free and reduced meals’, eligibility information. 

Laptop Fees/Insurance - Effective beginning the 2015-16 school year, parents have the option of purchasing annual, nonrefundable insurance for the iPad, the protective case, power adapters and cables.  The annual insurance cost is listed in the table above.  Purchasing insurance limits the parents'/student's financial liability on incidents as listed.  If insurance is not purchased, the parent is financially liable for the full replacement or repair cost as determined by the Director of Technology.


Insurance Coverage Details:

  • Damage:  Pays for damage to the iPad on school property or any other location.

  • Accidental Damage:  Pays for accidental damage caused by liquid spills, drops, falls and collisions.

  • Theft or Lost:  Pays for loss or damages of iPad due to theft/lost; providing the claim is made by the next school day and includes a copy of the official police report.

  • Fire:  Pays for loss or damage due to fire, providing the claim includes a copy of the official Fire Report from the investigating authority.

  • Electrical Surge:  Pays for damage of the iPad due to an electrical surge.

  • Vandalism:  Pays for damage caused by vandalism.

  • Natural Disasters:  Pays for loss caused by a Natural Disaster.

  • iPad Rugged Kickstand, no charge for replacement.

NOTE: Parent/Guardian may not substitute homeowner insurance or other personal insurance for District iPad insurance.
